Art lovers will enjoy spending some time at the Museo de Arte de Siglo XX La Asegurada, Alicante’s Museum of Contemporary Art. It blends the architecture of an old granary with the modern look of contemporary art, creating a very interesting space. The museum contains works by Bacon, Picasso, Dali, and Cocteau, just to name a few. It’s a great way of seeing works by some of the masters without travelling to a large city like Madrid or Paris.
The Museo de Fogueres, or the Bonfire Festivities Museum, features displays related to the festival of San Juan. This festival features burning paper-mache effigies. These effigies are incredibly detailed and intricate, and the museum shows how they are made and displays a number of the most outstanding. Videos and photographs of the actual festival are also on display.
